The Montrose Animal Protection Agency began in 1974 when a small group of concerned citizens and animal lovers sought to improve the conditions of companion animals in Montrose County. Held together by a shoestring for many years, and serving a wide variety of animal welfare problems, MAPA’s volunteers realigned their focus in the early 1990s to spay/neuter assistance and educational outreach. Today’s MAPA continues to deepen its efforts in those two areas, supported by a growing group of volunteers and supporters. In addition to grants, the annual Spay-ghetti Dinner, Trivia Night, Santa Paws Photo Shoot, and the Christmas Letter help fund the spay-neuter vouchers and educational opportunities.
Every amazing member of our MAPA team, including our board members, serves on a volunteer basis.
Our program contributes funding towards spay and neuter services for lower income families.
MAPA is proud to partner with several veterinarians who perform the spay/neuter procedures.
Community outreach through adult and children’s classes, elementary schools, libraries, events, and media.
